The Senior Room have been learning about the Blackwater River as well as the Lungs. They have just started their projects for ReelLIFE Science.
The Junior Room have learned about themselves and all about shadows and magnets. The has so much fun finding magnetic items around the school.
We made an entry in the Avondhu, so look out for us!
A trip to the library gave us a well earned break from school and allowed us to see how high the river rose after Storm Agnes. We all picked a book to read, a world of adventures awaits us on the pages of these books.
We all looked fabulous for our school photos, we can’t wait to see what they look like.
The Senior Room made lovely plum jam - Well done guys!
We finished off the month with a day to celebrate all the nationalities represented in our school. International Day saw us learn about Nigeria, Australia, America, Latvia, Slovakia, Poland, Korea, Ukraine, Myanmar and Brazil.
Latvia = the white on the flag represents the river, the maroon – the bloodshed in many wars. We learned a dance.
Nigeria = We ate yellow fries and saw the traditional dress.
Poland = The capital is Warsaw. We heard poems in Polish. The national emblem is an eagle.
Myanmar = In South East Asia. We watch and video and listen to a story. We tasted a lovely dessert linked to the new year when you are washed fresh.
Australia = It takes 2 days to get there on a plan. We tasted vegemite and fairy bread. Yummy!
Ukraine = Alex played us some music.
Slovakia = It’s the same size as Ireland and has 5 million people. It was originally Czechoslovakia. We sampled some treats.
America = It is huge. It takes a day to fly from one side to the other. The flag represents the 13 colonies (stripes) and 50 states (stars). They are very proud of their fag. Baseball is the national sport and we sang – Take me out to the ball game. We tasted the best cookies – originally made by Ruth Wakerhouse.
South Korea = The alphabet has 10 vowels and was written in 1446 by King Sejong. They have 49 seasons and we learned through story that it’s all about harmony. We ate sushi.
Brazil = The green on the flag is for the nature, the yellow the sun and the world is harmony. Bryan is from Guyana. We had some yummy treats.
What a great day – Thanks to all the parents who were able to take part. Much appreciated.
