As part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, the children in 5th and 6th class chose “Fundraising” as their business. They named their business “FAPE” (Fermoy Adair Poons Enterprise). Throughout the year, they organised events. These included a cake sale, dress up show, assembly collections, proceeds from their Christmas performance, a street collection and sponsorship for gigging/walking a million steps. These wonderful children, with the help of parents, staff and other pupils raised 1544.13 euro for POONS, a service in the Mercy Hospital which enables nurses to travel out to kids with cancers, and provide treatment for them in their homes.
Fermoy Adair National School were shortlisted for the National Live Life Film Awards 2019 in Tralee. This competition was set up in memory of teenager Donal Walsh. Hugely popular, this competition aims to spread Donal’s positive anti-suicide message before he lost his cancer battle, and there were over 3000 entries from every county in Ireland. Groups and individuals of all ages and abilities were invited to submit a two-minute film clip on a theme linked to positive thinking/living. This year’s theme was “It All Works Out!” Well known film and creative experts judged the competition including Maurice Galway, Director of Dingle International Film Festival and Dingle Animation, Award Winning Producer Lisa Fingleton, Award Winning Creative Designer Paul Ruane; TV Producer Brian Hurley; Award Winning Author and Screenwriter Ailbhe Keogan; Actress, Writer and Producer Maeve McGrath and more. The children in Adair felt very honoured to be short listed and they thoroughly enjoyed the awards ceremony. Photographed at the door with the snakes, the owl and the “Tallman”, they viewed the short-listed videos on screen, listened to up and coming bands, learned how to play the drums and danced to the beat. It was a fun day for all and Fermoy Adair School would like to thank the organizers and the sponsors of this prestigious and thought-provoking and worthy event.
