The juniors are busily engaged in Readathon and practising their reading skills in aid of Multiple Sclerosis. The seniors are involved in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and have chosen fundraising as their business venture. To date they’ve had a business meeting with Micheal Sheridan the CEO fundraiser of the Mercy Hospital and have decided to raise funds to pay for two nurses to treat kids with cancer in their homes. Following the meeting, the seniors invited their families and friends to help them organise a Cake/Bric a Brac Sale cum a costume “Cat Walk” as entertainment, in the school at the mid-term break. They were very pleased to raise €430 and they would like to thank all the people who helped them.
Congratulations to the lads who won the Premier Intermediate Football County Championships this month. We were delighted that Darragh O'Carroll, who filled in for principal release days in Fermoy Adair School a few years ago, was captaining the successful team. We wish them well as they play in the Munster Intermediate Championships against Galbally at the weekend. Many thanks to the team for visiting the school and displaying their trophies.

September is always a strange month. My former sixth class have moved on to greater things and the next crew are busily taking over the leadership roles. Children arrive back to school full of sunshine and two feet taller. When asked if they’re glad to be back, they momentarily break off conversation with the pals, give you a big smile and say “no,” before happily re-engaging. It’s a time of motivating children afresh; an uphill battle for a while until children are back in routine, a fresh beginning with new books, new projects and new challenges. It’s fun, it’s hard work, it’s an adventure. And as children and staff embark on a journey of discovery in 2018—2019, I hope it will be a happy and successful time for each member of the school community. Heather Smith. Principal
