Philip Johnston, the person who services our fire extinguishers each year, is a scuba diver instructor. He loves diving around historic wrecks. One of his favorite wreck sites is ‘The Aud’, the vessel that brought 20,000 rifles and a million rounds of ammunition from Germany to service the 1916 Easter Rising. He spoke to the children about Roger Casement sourcing the guns, Captain Spindler sailing the ship to Ireland, the sea pilot who never got the message to bring the ship to land, the arrest by the British government and the subsequent scuttling of the ship in 34 metres of water in Cork Harbour. The children were fascinated by his talk.
Congratulations to William Verling who represented Munster in the Water Safety Gala in Tallaght. He did extremely well in the All Ireland Competition 2016 and we are very proud of him. He also made the All Ireland for the 50 meter back stroke, and we look forward to watching this event in August.
This term we started golf with Matthew and we are looking forward to having a tennis day this week.
Finally the School Fete is on 18th June. Please put it in your diaries and tell others about it…. Especially people with young children who might enjoy an opportunity to look around.
