Well - December has started and practice for the school plays is in full swing - the excitement of planning costumes, getting to know the puppets and learning lines and song melodies and words is moving a pace. Our school plays will be on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st at 11 a.m. and the children love to see family and friends at these performances.

Congratulations to William Verling who recently qualified for the All Ireland Schools gala. William swam the 50 metres backstroke in 41.75 seconds. In 2016, William qualified for the All Ireland Surf Life Saving and he represented Cork in the Community Games in Athlone. We are extremely proud of William who trains 5 days a week in Fermoy Swimming pools. On three days a week he rises at 5.30 a.m. to swim for 1 ½ hours before school. Although William is only 11 years he competes with the 12 year olds. He tells me ‘it’s not the size of the dog that’s important, it’s the fight in the dog!!’ The senior room travelled to Cork Pops Symphony Orchestra up in the City Hall. The theme was ‘Rainbow Sound’, and they watched the digital expression of vibrating sound up on a screen as the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion played a medley of classical and modern pieces. Keith Hanley from the ‘Voice of Irelnad’ sang songs with the hundreds ofr children from all over Munster. It was a wonderful swelling, moving sound. A Super moon happens when perigee – the point at which the moon is closest to the earth, coincides with a full moon. During Science Week, the extra super moon came even closer to the earth. In fact, it hasn’t been as close since 1948 and won’t be as close again until 2034, so if you missed your opportunity to see the great glowing ball, you’ll have to be content with photographs! The next super moon is on 14th December 2016. |
